Restore recovers Watch History or a full Plekt backup from a local file or configured remote storage. Always inspect the source, preview, and scope before confirming.

Local restore

The Restore page puts local watch-history and full-instance sources before the restore preview.

Choose the local source, select Watch History or Plekt, review the preview, and choose the merge or replacement behavior offered by the dialog.

Merge into existing state adds the backup’s watched items without touching other watched items on connected apps. Replace existing state clears current watched items on each connected app, then reapplies only the backup set.

Restoring a full Plekt backup, and uploading a backup file to restore from, are for the install administrator only; a household user added under Users cannot do either. An upload is limited to 4 GB and is refused when the server would be left with too little free disk space.

Before a full Plekt restore replaces anything, Plekt saves a recovery copy of your current database in the full-backups folder. If the restore stops part way, the error names where that copy is, so you can return to the state from just before the restore.

Remote restore

Choose a configured remote destination, select the backup family, and review the file and scope before confirming. A full Plekt restore requires its encryption passphrase.

Safe restore sequence (the recovery copy Plekt saves does not replace step 2):

  1. Stop unrelated playback and sync changes.
  2. Make a current backup of the existing archive.
  3. Review the restore preview and scope.
  4. Let the restore finish and wait for the operation lock to clear.
  5. Run System Integrity and inspect History.
  6. Reconnect or replay destinations only after the local archive is correct.

Do not start Force Sync or a full watch-state replay while a restore is active. If a restore is interrupted, Plekt automatically recovers its stale operation lock so live playback tracking and watch-history updates can resume. Preserve the logs and inspect the restore result before retrying. Use Settings > Backups > Clear Status only after confirming no restore is still running.
