Plekt syncs Plex with Trakt by keeping a local watch-history record and reconciling changes between connected services. A watched or unwatched change from Plex can reach Trakt, and a Trakt change can flow back through Plekt to Plex and any other connected media servers.

Plex reports changes to Plekt through its built-in notification connection. Plekt checks Trakt on its scheduled sync cycle, which normally runs once a minute. You do not need to install a Plex Trakt plugin or subscribe to Trakt VIP for this connection.

Set up Plex and Trakt sync

  1. Connect Plex under Settings → Media servers. Plekt needs a Plex server URL and token, or a successful account connection.
  2. Open Settings → Connections → Trakt and choose Connect Trakt.
  3. Choose the initial sync policy shown by Plekt. Open the activation link, enter the device code, and approve access in Trakt.
  4. Let the first comparison finish. Then make one small watched or unwatched change and confirm its destination result in Sync Activity.

The built-in Trakt device connection does not require a personal API application. Advanced personal-app credentials are available for users who need them, such as Trakt VIP developers.

What syncs

Plekt syncs watched and unwatched state, watch dates, and individual rewatches between Trakt and connected media servers. Plex changes are received through its notification connection, with scheduled checks as a backstop. Trakt’s watched snapshot is reconciled about once a minute.

Plekt is the bridge between services. Keep only one writer connected to Trakt: disable the Trakt plugins and scheduled Trakt tasks in Emby and Jellyfin when Plekt handles Trakt sync. Multiple writers can reapply older state after Plekt has corrected it.
